Quick update: went through two locking pliers on the shaft that would not grip enough despite grinding.
An impact torx bit did a good job with the pass through wrench until it snapped leaving the bit head stuck in the shaft.

I hate when that happens. Time for gas axe (AKA cutting torch)?

I am thinking of drilling into the nut. Start small, get bigger and then blow off the nut with a chisel.

I am afraid I am past drilling the shaft, because now there is a hardened steel bit stuck in it :(

- If you carefully apply heat (propane torch set at low) and point straight to the nut for 1 min, then spray with
PB Blaster and let is soak, then turn it.

- If you mess up the shock mount (the round piece), let me know, I have 2 gently used shock mounts in excellent condition, I can ship them to you.

- If you look at the link I posted above, you will see the vise-grips trick...

Yessss, it’s loose. Used a tie down strap to keep the self tightening Knipex in place. Seriously, get one, mine is 20 years old, bites as new.

Hi, Putting it all back together. I asked FCP for the torque specs. According to that sheet the top nut just needs 18 Ft Lb. Is that correct? Seems pretty low.

I hate to abuse good tools, but sometimes it is the only way. Glad you got it apart.

60 Nm or 44 ft lb for the nut per VIDA (see R&R section 76, shock absorber rear replacing).

Thank you!
So it is the strut center shaft. I assumed it is the upper shock mounting.
