Biology is incredibly complex. I stick with simple stiff like nonlinear optical physics.

If you have an opinion about vaccines and haven’t spent 10 years studying immunology, it’s probably unfounded in fact.

It’s wierd that JJ has been suspended when the others have the same blood clot side effect numbers, which isn’t surprising as they both target the same sequence which is found in clotting factors.

Vaccine policy is a convolution if science , public health policy, and politics...hopefully with the politics minimized.

Bottom line, where the rubber hits road so to speak, is that this is all a matter of trust, and that is something that has been severely compromised in this country. And for good reason, IMHO. I can not honestly give high marks in honesty to the pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and political industries in this country at this time in History.

Trust, risk, and acceptance of normal are related. Look at US automobile accident deaths per year. In the last several years, US auto accidents deaths have been between 35,000 and 38,000. These auto deaths peaked in the 1970's and early 1980's at about 50,000 to 55,000 per year. For comparison, the total US military deaths in Vietnam were about 55,000 total.
There is a theory that, as drivers, we will compensate and adjust as we perceive safety has improved in automobile design. As we perceive cars are safer, we will take more risks, that is drive faster on the highway. Since the 1980's speed have increase and traffic is heavier, yet deaths per year have not dropped greatly.

Parents neighbor age 69 walks up to me without a mask and says I’ve gotten my two shots, don’t worry about masks as put mine on. Fauci in the beginning says let’s get down to Facts? Facts from what study and data? Fauci never cites any data but dances to variants and wild types which he said is a totally different ball game yet also says in all likelihood will be immune up to 6 months? Again, which study, what he cites doe not answer Rand Pauls question. The only thing he could offer was Mask Protects as if it was a catch all..

Is Fauci receiving and using Minority Reports?

The same article says:
"They said other variables - like the number of people in a space, whether they wear masks, what they are doing, and the level of ventilation - were much more important."

Other reports have said the same about distancing indoors. It is a rule of thumb - not a silver bullet. The real situation is complicated by what people are doing and their surroundings. Shouting and singing loud is worse than quiet activity. Poor ventilation may move virus particles toward you, instead of exhausting outdoors. Masks can filter the virus particles from infected people and to uninfected people.

SO, I read the MIT paper.

The headline that should have been written is

"MIT attempts to mathematically model indoor Covid-19 spread unsuccessfully."

But that wont sell any clicks or papers.

Well I'm trying to look at this with open eyes and some common sense.
I read that this past years flu season had the lowest rates of infection on record. This, they say, is due to the masking and social distancing measures that we have implemented due to Covid. A nice side affect.
So every year, in this country, we are pushed to get flu shots, which apparently don't really do as much good as the simpler, less invasive approaches. The virus just mutates its way around the vaccine.
Covid is more similar to the flu than to polio or small pox, both of which we get just one shot for, so it would seem that the likely end result will be yearly Covid shots. Yet we have just seen that other measures work much better to combat the flu than yearly shots.
I also heard an interview on NPR ( insert heart ) with a immunologist who said that herd immunity is not attainable through vaccines.
I guess if it was, then we would not have a yearly flu season. Again Covid is not like Polio and is more like the flu, which doesn't respond quite as well to the vaccine approach, but does seem to be mitigated by other simpler less costly remedies.
Bad news for the pharmaceutical CEO's, but I think good news for those paying attention.
I ask - Why have we not ramped up production of N95 masks ? No Defense Production Act implemented for that. Just jump right in bed with big pharma and its blank checks, patents, lawsuit protections and I'm sure big bonuses.
I'm afraid the only herd I see is a herd mentality.

Had to edit that early morning post. Production instead of " Authorization " ... but I think everyone got it.

Post, go to work, think about what you said, head slap.

Sveedy, a big pharma skepticism is healthy. Entirely healthy. Commendable.
There are over 20,000 prescription drug products approved for marketing.
https://www.fda.gov/about-fda/fda-basic ... categories.

That's a pretty good illustration of the size of the industry in the US.

But for heaven's sake use your skepticism on their products that deserve it. Don't use it on a vaccine that combats the spread of something that kills the elderly with wanton abandon.

With respect to you, that's my take.
