Hello,
I get “check stop lamp” every time a press the brake pedal.
When I look at the brake lights they don’t turn so I assume “stop lamp” is “brake lights/bulbs”(as named in the manual)
I’ve changed bulbs, changed fuse in baggage fuse box. I can hear the relay switch click when pressing brake, but still, no lights.
Any suggestions?
Note: the top trunk brake light does work. But not the left and right ones.
Also, I’ve tried swapping these relays(?) to see if it solves the issue. I lost track on the marked red one, anyone knows if in correct slot? Any diagram for that part of the box?
“Check stop lamp” clarification/fix? Topic is solved

I've changed my response due to misreading the diagram. Sorry.
The relay for the brake lights is RMI5. It should be the 5th from the bottom relay on the right side...not visable due to the side panel. I'd remove the side panel (one 10mm bolt and some plastic clips-fragile), then I'd swap out one of the other relays (same PN) with RMI5 and see if that fixes your problem.
See page 18 of the attached pdf for relay positions. Your's look correct but I'd focus on RMI5 or even RSH6 (Shunt, brake light) for your brake light issue.

Your sub woofer post from Feb. 2020 had them in the picture so it appears you must have removed them.
Also, my car is a 2001 T5, your 2004 XC may have had some wiring changes.
Fix the brake lights 1st then look at the fuel filler door locking and rear hatch locking. My car has both RMI22 and RMI24 but things may have changed between a 2001 T5 and a 2004 XC...or maybe you removed them.

Hmm,
seems the RMI5 has a blue relay #8663490
the rest black ones are #9441161 (has extra pin #4)
When I try IPD search, I get these: https://www.ipdusa.com/Catalog/Index?se ... 8663490%20
not same part#, but same Diagram on top like the blue. I'll get one and try.
Hope it works.

Why not just move the relay from RMI6 to RMI5 and see if that fixes your problem 1st?
It appears you have the wrong relay in RMI5 but I'd confirm it before ordering another.

It worked
brake lights are back!
This 4pin relay is a 20amp and is to spec on the XC70 for brake light.
And it matched the RMI5 position as the v70 specs pdf. Thank you.
