BCM fault.and no shift in drive

Post by dedubyah »

hi guys,

I have just purchased a 2005 2.5 auto XC90 with 180,000kms on it with the following problem. it starts and runs fine, shifts into reverse but appears to be stuck in one gear in drive, it will do around 80kph @ 2500rpm and locks up and unlocks fine. it is showing the check engine light but has no fault messages and no ABS light. I tried manually shifting it but no effect, removed the ABS fuses , they were good, also swapped relays, also no change.
The person I bought it from had it scanned, not with Vida, and it was showing a BCM fault.
Unfortunately the car is a 4.5 nhour drive away and before I tow it home on a trailer, I thought I would ask here, can I swap the BCM with another to drive it back or do I need it matched to the ECM first?
Also, has anyone else experienced a similar fault? Thanks,

Dale

Where in NZ are you?
I don’t think the BCM fault has anything to do with the transmission fault...unless the speed signal is completely missing. Anyway, most generic code readers are next to useless for diagnosing these cars.
