I have a 97 850 GLT wagon, with a 98 v70r 2.3 t5 in it. My auto trans took a shit, now I want to put the 5 speed manual gearbox in it. Will a trans out of a 1998 s70 work? But here Is my next dilemma , I'm browsing for clutch, pressure plate and flywheels, also ecu. But when I search for both my and his model car it's yielding different results.???so Im not quite sure what to actually look for when shopping for my clutch,and acc. another side question the guy I'm getting the trans off of is like 90% sure that the pedal assembly from his car will not work with my 850. He's also not to sure about some things, so before I drive across 3 states I just want to get some clarification. I was told that the trans would work whether it be from a 2000 or 1998. But again, just triple checking and cross checking. I'm new to the volvo scene and just trying to learn what we can Frankenstein together?

5-speed AT will not work. It's operated by TCU that uses CAN-bus.
Pedals assemblies for S70 and 850 are different.
If my English is bad, please correct me :oops:

All I got out of that is pedal cluster will not work. What are you meaning by 5 speed AT?

And I just confirmed the S70 the trans is coming from is a 2000.

If you actually meant 5 speed automatic transmission, then that makes sense, but I'm swapping a manual into it not an auto. Honestly didn't even know volvo had a 5 speed auto.

I thought you want to replase your 4AT with 5AT :D
Any MT from 1994 to 2000 is compatible with your car.
Gearboxes from 1998 to 2000 uses CSC - concentric slave cylinder, which is united with throwout bearing. Also, later cars were equipped witn double-mass flywheel. No matter, you can install components in any combination: single-mass clutch will normally operate with CSC or external slave cylinder, double-mass is compatible with both types too.
Before CSC became a standard eguipment (in '98, as I remember), Volvo published a service bulletin with description of replasing external slave cylinder by CSC, to eliminate vibration and noise from clutch.
Your AT drive shafts will fit to MT without problems.

Fuck an auto trans haha. Okay awesome so let me ask you this while shopping for my clutch which car should I search for? Should I search for clutch off the new trans number or can I just buy off the 850 trans and it will work?

I would prefer single-mass clutch, before 1998. Bad double-mass flywheel can make a lots of rattle. And it's expensive.

So any clutch pre 98 for either models will work, and the same for flywheel?
