Re: P0410 Secondary Air Injection System

Post by vjaneczko »

Time to dust off this old thread...

I did the SAS delete a few years ago and just recently encountered the P0410 code again. I thought it was the diode that went bad so I replaced it, but still get the error within 3 seconds of starting the car. I'm wondering if anyone has ideas on what the problem might be, besides what 4VOLVO mentioned about having to replace the ECU. I'm thinking there's a wire under the ECU box that's gone bad.

I gotta get it to pass emissions in the next few days. In Illinois they only scan the ODBII port so I just gotta figure out how to make it work, even if it's just for a short time.

Which method did you use to install the diode?

The solenoid is still in place, and its electronics must be functional to avoid the code. And the relay for that matter, but I have never heard of it going bad. Can you test a few parts from the junkyard?

@vjaneczko,

I am not a "parts swapping shadetree mechanic", but the Volvo 850 is so old now that the ECU is cheap.
You can get an ECU from junky yard for $25.
Ebay has one listed now for $15 incl. shipping!

You may want to go this route (swapping ECU) to save you time and money chasing this CEL light issue.

What about the plastic hose running from breather cover to this pump? Just take it off and plug the breather end? Will this affect the running of engine? Im not concerned about the engine light I'll just reset atleast once a month just to be sure no other new codes

I'm not sure what the status of the system is in your situation, but if it's not running then I bet it will be safe to plug the end.

That's what we did when we pulled the SAS from the wife's '97GLT.
