P80 Key stuck in ignition C70/ S70/V70

Add me to this exclusive club today, with Shaggkira 1999 V70

The button to the shifter is partially stuck in so I’ll get some lube in it this morning and report back

A single shot of silicone spray, and ShaggWagon was on its way.....

The shifter knobs start to break up with age. You used to get a replacement button from FCP and IPD at reasonable prices, but last time I looked they were a crazy price and I had difficulty finding them. It is easy to pop the shift knob off to have a better look and clean the shift knob. Turn the top of the shifter boot about 45 degrees and it should release from the bottom of the shifter knob. The brace and pull up hard on the shifter knob. Can be a bear to move but it will. Refitting is the reverse.

One of the girls borrowed Shaggkira last night whilecwas away and got stuck with a stuck key. She figured I out how to pop the switch out with a scout knife.

I need to go in and fix this permanently, wonder if it’s in the switch or down below?

Eric is usually right on this, but I always like to look at the simple stuff like the button sticking when it breaks the hinge mechanism. It is an easy swap and you have a few spare cars out there you can do a temporary swap to see if it fixes it and give you an opportunity to see if the original is bad. Sometimes just a good clean and a little silicon oil can help on the button.

I ended up having to trim some of the plastic on the handle, fixed part, so that the button released cleanly. This fixed Shagg, and now Evita is doing the same in MA.



She will come home this weekend and I’ll fix
