Vibration after new engine mounts

Post by bichinavolvo »

Howdy y’all! 8)

My Volvo S60 2.0T 2006 has a rather strange problem: I replace the top engine mount on my car to get rid of the vibration/buzzing and i succeeded. Later on I discovered a completely broken transmission torque mount which I replaced with a OEM style one (Lemförder). Then the vibration/buzzing came back and since then I have replaced every single engine mount on the car.
I have also replace the strut brace bushings and "aligned" the top engine mount as well as the transmission torque mount. without any promising results.

The interesting part is the transmission torque mount which seems to be transmitting the vibration because when I loosen the bolts and the nuts it goes away. So naturally I ordered another transmission torque mount from a different brand thinking it would be softer, but it is exactly the same as the first one (Lemförder).

The car no problems with ignition or anything like that.

I would really appreciate input on this. Peace!

Are you sure its not a normal vibration from a 5 cylinder Volvo engine? These cars have a very distinct vibration I would compare to a 4 cylinder Diesel engine. I replaced all of my engine mounts, subframe bushings, spring seats, etc with OEM Volvo brand parts, not to address a vibration but because they were all worn out. The engine still vibrates but much "crisper" through the steering wheel and throughout the rest of the car, perhaps a little more noticeable when temperatures are cold. This is normal for these cars and engines.
If your car runs well and there is nothing wrong with the engine, I would suggest that this is a normal rumble of a Volvo 5 cylinder engine.

Hi! I'm pretty sure this is not normal. Had a V70 2.0T without any vibration. The steering wheel is really buzzing. The weird part is that is is so smooth without the transmission torque mount attached. At this point I'm just thinking if the rubber in the Lemförder mount is harder than the factory Volvo mounts...

How many Kms? Might be time for subframe bushings.

Are your vibration issues at idle in park? At idle when foot is on brake and car is in gear? When car is in gear at speed? What speed?

Good point, my car vibrates most at idle in gear at about 725 Rpm. If I add about 25 or more Rpm the vibration almost disappears.

Vibration at any gear around 750 rpms. 200 000 km on the clock and in VERY good shape. Subframe bushings have been "upgraded" with poly inserts. The vibration did get a little bit worse after this so I removed them.

On the 850, one was supposed to have the transmission in gear, but held against the brakes, while tightening down that lower transmission torque mount, to solve exactly this problem. This will take a helper, and at that one you trust not to run you over, to accomplish safely.

If that advice is from a manual I wonder if it specified putting it in forward or reverse gear?
