Bolt on timing side backing out

Hello, I recently noteced a bolt on 1998 v70 xc was pretty much falling out, as you can see in the photo its to the lower left of the water pump, I tride to thread it back in but it would not go, wonding if its part of the tensioner and and thats why it wont go in? anyway scard to dive the at this point ao any help would be appreciated thanks!

Hello, Pull the wheel, pull up the splash guard, then take a picture from that angle. Might be a better angle.

Ok yeah so I belive thats the tensioner? still can't get it to thread back in, any advice?

You need to...


Set the timing to the reference marks.

Remove both bolts

Remove the tensioner and compress it slowly, then insert the pin to hold it compressed.

Now see if the bolts will thread into those holes and chase or tap as needed.

Reinstall the tensioner and torque bolts to spec.

Pull the pin!

If you have not looked in there before and seen it fitted so it has the bolt head flush with the tensioner body, it could be someone has fitted a wrong bolt that is either too long or is short on thread.

Follow the info the guys have said. It is the only way to confirm what the issue is.
