If we had MOT over here about 80% of our cars would fail. Something to think about if you come over and drive over here. The Swedish test is even tougher

And then there are states (like Oklahoma), where there are no inspections and anything that moves can be on the interstate. Beware.

From having seen the state of a lot of cars driving around from my visits there I can safely say I'm not even remotely surprised. Im not sure how the Transport Styrelsen inspection compares, though from what I've read it sounds identical (not surprising given they adopted EU policies in 2018) though they get 14 months betwen tests. Even the dreaded TUV is biennial and noticeably less strict than the MOT, unless your car has mods that is, at which point it just becomes a pain in the rear more than anything.

Joined specifically for this post. I'm pretty sure its still not common knowledge.

Just stripped my V70R back and luckily there's no rust there. I'm treating with Buzzweld CIO.

How's it looking a year on?

I guess you can't leave the plastic arch liners off due to the rear bumper connecting to them. Shame.

Dinitrol is an excellent product, was holding up very well. It went through two separate wheels off detailing sessions and all still looked well and truly protected.

Exactly right regarding leaving them off, though I think by and large they do help. Sadly I'll have no further updates as the car lunched a clutch and DMF, so was sold on.

Wish we had access to the rust prevention products like in Europe. What we get here (or what I have found in North America) is like medicines here. They are just good enough to keep you on your feet but the minute you stop taking them you keel over. I tried to import some Bilt Hamber products and others to Canada but they would only ship if I bought a 40ft container's worth to make it worthwhile clearing the paperwork this side. :o

I used Por-15 which is the best of a bad lot and it had rust coming back through in a year.

Glad you caught the issue though.

Scot, have you tried SEM Rust Trap? I've read some good things about moisture cured urethanes and I'm starting to do some experiments with it.

Here's a list of US suppliers/partners for Dinitrol - click

As for Bilt Hamber, was that direct from their site? They claim direct shipping and I know from other forums that they've shipped to the NAs before, including small <5kg orders or so.

Maybe they have changed policies or have now expanded there shipping. That was about 3 years ago. Maybe worth trying again. Thanks for the heads up! Canada does have weird material safety laws which while are to be applauded, often shoot themselves in their feet compared to the US.
