2005 XC90 No directionals, highbeam, or Cruise

All SWM switch functions communicate with CEM via a LIN (low speed data) bus, if some items are working and others are not you can assume the bus is probably functioning. I'll guess the radio issue is not related unless it's being initiated by the SWM itself.

Out of curiousity, is the original battery still in the vehicle or has it been replaced?

The battery is about 2 years old. So not brand new but not old. When I was researching this issue I came across a post on Swedespeed I believe that discussed loss of steering wheel controls that was caused by a faulty cruise control switch, but that was the only instance I have seen.

So to reiterate, I have no steering wheel controls except low speed wipers and a rear wiper that once you turn on the front wipers, keeps wiping away even after you turn the front wipers off (I ended up pulling the fuse).

Over the past week I have received my iCarsoft reader, and swapped out two SWM from other '05 XC90's one was a known working model. The other was from a pull a part yard. Neither worked and in fact now I have an anti-skid message as well.

The when I read the original "failed" SWM I received a "SWM internal fault message", another that said the SWM was operating outside of normal parameters, and another that said the momentary high beam exceeded "x" amount of time. The live data feed indicated I was turning left no matter which way I was turning.

The swap out just simply gave me a SWM internal fault, said I was turning right no matter which direction I turned. I also am getting an ABS fault that says it is not communicating with the SWM

I did follow the centering process on the SWM before install. No CEM or ECU faults. I have one DIM fault indicating the light on the antennae ring is not operating (its not). I tried a SWM calibration. It appeared to allow for one on the original SWM, but does not allow me to calibrate on the pull off part.

I am at a bit of a loss. I find it hard to believe I received two bad SWM- I suppose its possible but seems unlikely.

I was able to get resolution to the issue. Long story short, I purchased a pull off steering wheel off an 2005 XC90 and installed it. Just like that, all my controls are back, installed with my original SWM. It appears the issue was either with the cruise control or radio switch or a short within wiring harness in the steering wheel itself. I moved the switches from the pull off wheel (cause it doesn't match) to the original one and will install tonight. As long as the the issue was one or both of the switches and not the wiring harness in the steering wheel, I should be good to go. The iCarsoft can recalibrate the the SWM.
