Sirius Magnetic Antenna Installation on XC90 Help

Post by rp2005 »

I recently purchased a Sirius Onyx radio (https://shop.siriusxm.com/onyx-plus-vehicle.html) for my 2009 XC90 and I'm having trouble trying to figure out how to run the magnetic antenna. I originally was going to try and put in on the back of the roof on top of the brake light panel and then try to figure out how to run the cable to the front but that panel is plastic. I then decided to put it near the top corner of the windshield near the driver's side but I can't figure out how to run the cable. I've installed the radio before on my old Saab and was able to tuck it beneath the weather stripping but I can't seem to figure out how to do this on my XC90. Any suggestions? Has anyone done this before?

Look forward of the third brake light.
There is a spot to mount the Antenna and a channel to run the wire from center to left then to rear tailgate.

This is where the OEM Sat Antenna is installed. The OEM does have a thin coax cable and a rubber jacked molded to fit the channel. You can make a jacket out of RTV.

Hey! Forgot to follow up. I ended up switching my phone plan to an unlimited data plan and subscribing to Sirius XM through the app. For the connection from my phone to the radio, I am using an Amazon Echo Auto plugged into the Aux port and that actually works really well. Seemed to be the cleanest solution. I have the Echo auto resting on the center console area between the shifter and the arm rest and plugged into the rear seat lighter port so the front one is still free. Sirius has a pretty good Echo Skill so with the Echo Auto, you can just say "Alexa, ask Sirius to play Octane" and it will the channel through the speakers.
