Hope this finds everyone in good spirits and health!!
The front brakes on my 1998 V70 were telling me to inspect them! So, as I was cleaning the caliper guides to the front calipers, I noticed on the inside (motor side) of the wheel well a shiny section of metal that had all the paint and stuff rubbed off. The coil spring seems to be rubbing.
The rear subframe bushing near the steering column has all but disintegrated and am wondering if this might be the cause of the rubbing. Or bushings to the strut, maybe.
There is a brief noise that I can hear when I accelerate from a stopped position, that sounds like a bolt is not quite tight enough. But, I cannot tell where this noise originates. I have re-checked each of the motor mounts and the lower transmission mount and none are loose. There is still a part of one bolt inside the motor that attaches to the upper motor mount, the bracket of which has bolts that hold the front- and rear-left side of the motor, near the distributor cap and camshaft position sensor. The bolt head and about an inch of the bolt broke off when I was last doing an upper cylinder head cleaning, I am hard pressed to think this might be the cause as the motor has a new lower motor mount and new transmission mount to keep it from listing further left.
I will have to remove the tire to get inside the wheel well in order to take a picture of the rubbing area. Once I do this, I can post the picture. Short of that, I would appreciate any thoughts and or suggestions you might have on how to tackle this without expelling major $$.
