98 S70 GT: value?

Post by CIK7 »

This might be the last time I post for this car. And will prob be rare that I'm on the p80 anymore. I'm not hemming and hawing. I appreciate all the time y'all spent on the poll, helping me pick out this car. I will not buy another FWD. Yes this was an AMAZING and exciting car with the 5spd and the special GT trim which includes all luxuries except power seats, sunroof, premium stereo, and turbo. It has foglights, spoiler, wood trim, sc901 system, leather manual seats. But after my 960 luxury experience, Im disappointed. I will admit, going from my 2003 honda accord coupe 6spd to this GT is night and day. The honda has an hard seat compared to the Volvo S70 seats. But because I did the swap from s70 to 960 driver seat, the transition is more insane. Im going to figure out how to swap Honda upholstery for another Volvo. I'm sorry for the tangent. My 960 was really that good. I think June would completely agree.

I need help with the value. I bought it for $2800 on 4/21/21 advertised with 150,569 miles even thought odo didn't work. It actually has approx 175k miles. I spent approx $850 on parts. The quoted repairs from my accident are approx $2500-2600. It's likely they'll total it. What should I expect value wise? They don't know it has a blown hg.

No idea what the value of these are to insurance when they total it out. How bad was the damage though? 2500-2600 sounds really high, what was the list of things to repair?

What would be your next car?

When my 96 850 with 120k on the odometer was totaled four years ago, they gave me 3,000 (!). It was based on one recent sale in North Carolina, that's all they could find. But I wouldn't expect that much, maybe 2500. The money you put into it has no bearing on things. It's really pointless to speculate though, just wait and see what the insurance company come back with. They will look for comparable sales and price it out, like they always do. If they numbers don't look good then you can try finding other 98 S70s that recently sold for more and use those to argue.

Sorry to go off at a tangent but what is a GT spec car? is that a US model as I had not heard of it until recently. Up here we got the base model (NA engine and SE spec had a lot of luxuries like leather seats), then there was the GLT which was the LPT engine and then the T5 and finally the 'R', XC, and AWD (LPT and XC both with LPT motors).

Well the body damage was minimal. A turn signal, entire front half of the fender dented and scraped. The bumper was heavily scuffed. The pair of brand new wheel hub assemblies were damaged when my car was pushed to the left.

My next car will be a RWD Volvo. I want a 5 speed manual again. I think 940 only comes with an auto so either I just buy a 740/760 5spd or plan on a 940 with trans swap. Truly though, there might be nothing to match my 960. What a gem...

The special 98 NA in US came as the GT. The 2000 was rebadged in the US as an SE. So yes, what y'all call an SE is what we call a GT for 98. Mine had wood trim, leather, heated seats, fog lights, spoiler, 6 disc CD, TRACS. I made it better by swapping the s70 driver for 960 driver and 816 for an sc901 from an 04 C70 and the 4 channel amp from a 98 s70 t5. Also I wired a Nissan 5.25" bose sub onto the green center speaker harness.

You can call it like you want, but there was NO GT badge from a Volvo, officiailly.
SE badge was used on 850 too.

Yes..there are some brochures on the internet mentioning a GT,but...officially from Volvo...no.
