VIDA DICE scan query

Post by chrisjack »

Hi to all people on this site. This is my first post and first attempt to use Dice.

Background: I've got a DICE unit off eBay and the tests for DICE diagnostic passes. Installation of VIDA has been all good. Reading car Vin and details works fine.

Issue: When I go over to the Vida diagnostic tab, I have run into a wired issue where certain modules at the front of the network diagram reads and everything else (middle-back) has a no communication message.
Fault tracing shows no issues on the ones that communicate with DICE/VIDA. The ones that do not are greyed out. I am not sure what the problem is and what I can do, so I am hoping someone can shed some light on the problem.

See attachments for my explanation above

Pull the CEM out and check for water damage. Clean all the electrical connectors and reinstall.

Thanks for the reply @RickHaleParker. I will make some time to do the visual checks.
A noob question though: I used an Autel scanner (Maxdiag MD 806 pro) which I have used/borrowed in the past to see if It can scan all modules and if there faults recorded (or a no communication message). It scanned through and gave a pass result on all modules; so I'm wondering if the comms link to the rest of the modules is via CEM; how is a third party scanner able to establish a link and VIDA via DICE is unable to achieve the same?

Are you sure you are interpreting the Maxidiag MD806 pro correctly? Cannot find any faults without communication.
Vida knows what modules could be there. Does Maxidiag ?

The person I borrowed it from had gotten this particular unit as he was having some weird issues in the past. This unit gave him a no comms message CEM of his car ( showed me the screenshot). So I watched this scan on my car and it did go through all the modules which are the ones VIDA was trying to connect to as well. Fairly certain this model is quite specific with which modules it looks at, as it connects to the vehicle model after a VIN pull just as DICE.
Quite confused.....

One note that may be helpful: All of the modules that are working are on the High Speed CAN bus, and the ones that are not working are on the low speed CAN bus. The DiCE can communicate with both, through the CEM. (DiCE has wires that go to each bus.) Thus, something is suspect on the bus, or one of the modules causing an issue.

Thanks Roger_850T, that makes sense. I will be disconnecting the CEM to have a look at the condition. I will post an update once I am done with it.

So I've had a look at the CEM and it's in a good condition, no water damage. Cleaned the connectors and put it back. No luck, still the same issue.

I might just leave it as I'm not sure about what else could be done.

Update: Managed to borrow a DICE unit which works just fine. So the one I have is defective.

Don't toss it in the trash. The case and cords could be used to house a CEM cracker.
