It's crapping out fiberglass.
Can I assume this is only coming from the rear muffler, or might the front one also be at fault?
If it feels like the car has suddenly lost its punch on the highway, this is my culprit, right?

The lost of power if due to back pressure.kcodyjr wrote: 18 Jun 2021, 01:21 If it feels like the car has suddenly lost its punch on the highway, this is my culprit, right?
The fiberglass could be from the muffler or resonator.
Open the exhaust between the muffler or resonator. If the back pressure goes away it is the muffler. If it does not go away replace both. It would not be a bad idea to replace both as preventive maintenance while you have it apart.
This is one if the things that can trip the Catalytic Converter efficiency DTC other then the Catalytic Converter.

Resonators are for shaping the sound of the exhaust. ( Alters the frequencies of the sound waves )MDK wrote: 18 Jun 2021, 03:55 It's from the muffler or possibly the resonator..I cut my resonator out. But my but my state doesn't have inspection or emissions tests.
Mufflers reduce the volume of the sound. ( Reduces the amplitude of a sound waves )
Neither one has anything to do with environment emissions ... unless you count noise pollution as an environment emission.
Resonate : Produce or be filled with a deep, full, reverberating sound.
Muffle : To wrap or pad with something to dull the sound.

I tend to agree; if there's even a chance it could be the resonator, then on a 15-year-old car with 213K miles it's a question of when, not if, it will fail, if it hasn't already. When it does, it would place a linear obstruction into a hypothetical new muffler, of the same kind that's been known to kill pet felines.RickHaleParker wrote: 18 Jun 2021, 07:11 It would not be a bad idea to replace both as preventive maintenance while you have it apart.
Given the cost of the OE muffler and resonator, I'm considering this Mototec kit:

Has anyone tried it?

Looks like you got the tail end of too much horse power. Never seen that before.
On my 2001 XC70, years ago, I replaced the resonator with the cheapest thing available on Rock Auto. Worked just fine. My issue was rust.
If your muffler is bad you may want to go looking for a used unit from a wrecker or see if anything is available on Craigslist.
