Costco, Amazon & Walmart are all about the same. When there is a sale Costco is around $25 for 10 Quarts. The issue with using one of these brands for cleaning is the viscosity. I just wouldn't use anything in 30W in a turbo during summer.
My second choice for oil is Castro Edge after Rotella T6. This is actually a little better for colder winters. Just run the Castrol or Rotella and change it out sooner instead of the extra work and cost of another filter. I used to run a 15W-40 motor oil in my 98 S70 T6 with 235K miles till a colder than usually winter caused me to change to a 5W-40 oil.

Yep, it's easy to find cheap oil.

Thanks guys. I'm running a naturally aspirated V70. How does that affect the recommendation of weight and synthetic vs conventional?
I have no idea when the oil was last changed but it's surely over a year. I'm tempted to use some Liqui Moly engine flush immediately before the change, but that's entirely opposite of my previous idea to leave the deposits in case they're helping. I do see oil weeping at the top rear of the engine though I don't know what's causing it.

That could possibly be running across the top of the head from the oil filler cap seal. Easy cheap fix. Look under your plastic plug wire cover and see how it looks.

Per BlackBart I too had to change the seal on the oil filler cap of my former 98 S70 T5. With your weather averages year round and NA motor I recommend the Castrol Titanium 0W-40 or Liqui Moly 0W-40 if you want to do the exchange program.FireFox31 wrote: ↑22 Jul 2021, 12:33 Thanks guys. I've been using the Rotella T6 5w-40 in all of my cars, including NA, but of course other oils would work well too. I like your flush idea actually, I was going to suggest it with that same product but hesitated to go down the rabbit hole.
I agree with those guys, that could be the standard oil cap seal leak, check under the plastic cover for confirmation.
Flush, rinse with cheap oil, switch to a good oil.

Thanks for all of the info and recommendations! I will flush, rinse with some oil through for 1500k mi, then begin a regular schedule.
My cap gasket was leaking so I replaced it a few months ago and cleaned oil from around the plugs (that's an old picture). I should have just gotten a gasket because now my new cap says "Volvo recommends Castrol." I almost took their recommendation.

Oil threads use synthetic words. They last 2x as long as normal words

I see what you did there. But do their words have molybdenum?
I don't understand when my friends give me a dirty look when I tell them if they want to try synthetic oil, just buy the same viscosity and dump it in.
