Looking at purchasing 2007-2011 XC90 V8

Post by shiloh51933 »

I'm looking at 2007-2011 XC90 V8's, I heard about the issues with the balance shaft bearing failures in 05', so I'm looking at 2007-2011. I'm looking for suggestions and experiences with the V8 models. We had a 2004 XC90 T6 with a new transmission and my wife loved that model. She wants another XC90 like that one and still wants the HP/torque, so the N/A 3.2 is out of the question. Any assistance is appreciated.

Post 2008 is the least risk (known TF-80SC transmission valve body solenoid premature wear for <06J SN on the Aisin-Warner label) if a V8 is what you're looking for. Issue with CB shaft is known for engine SN <6833, even then check to see if motor was washed and left to sit and borescope the CB valley back side if you're so inclined to be sure the condition of the rear bearing "well" (see viewtopic.php?p=514577#p514577 for details)

By the time you get it, if someone has not already done a valve/timing cover or power steering pump or starter or alternator at one point they'll come up. Ballpark costs for many of the V8 centric jobs may be found here- https://www.swedespeed.com/threads/stan ... 90.638488/ (ballpark being the operative word). This was a first pass to answer a long running question folks had on Swedespeed, if anyone has observations about the cost or time I'm noting please feel free to either add to the thread directly or send me feedback and I'll edit.
