850 to rescue for swap

Post by manovlov »

Hy Buddies,

I continue to want to put my 850 in its origin shape as much as possible. I have a 850 in head, i contacted the seller, tells me the car is unable to go on the road because " the coolant flows back through the expansion tank". Honestly, i have no idea about what could cause this issue. But always ready to learn something about my 850. The seller is in holidays for now and we have decided to call back at the end of august for more photos and details.

This car interest me for its interior and some options (fog lights, heating seats, headlights washers, dashboard and other stuff). The driver seat isn't amazing, but i think it's more easy to fine a same one than a beige one...

It seems to be a 02/1995, the same as mine, petrol one, automatic gearbox.

The game goal is for me to find what i could do to make it able to come back home by road (700 kms).

So.. teach me.
- cylinder head gasket
- water pump out
- thermosta coolant (the seller says it's a new one...)

After the holidays, you can see if there is only coolant in the oil, look for the milkshake.

If that is ok, you might be able to drive the car back on local roads at 60-80 kph with the cap off the reservoir, watching the temperature gauge the whole way.

Salut Abscate,
When you say"...only coolant in the oil...", what can be other in it ? If it's "milkshake", to bring back the car by road driving slowly is still possible ?

Thanks for your repli.

Driving with milkshake will kill the engine finally...
Blowed off head gasket is the most possible reason.
Do you buy this car fo spares or want to repair it? What engine it have?
If my English is bad, please correct me

Manor

I meant to write

“ see if there is any coolant in the oil”

If they are not mixing, the car is probably driveable for 300km, especially if you keep speeds down.

Is the 300km to LaRochelle? I miss going there.

Hy Buddies,

I continue this post because I received news. Here's that what the seller says :

"Engine heater - water is coming out of the expansion tank when it is hot and the radiator is leaking".

To me, it means that when the coolant level is too low, because the hole in the radiator, the engine heat produces this issue.

I'm a bit disappointed, but i think better to go my way. I don't know what the owner has injected in the coolant system , in which way he brought the car back etc...

Thanks for yours advices.

Could be as simple as a header tank pressure cap failure. Fairly common. Maybe I just don't understand. Is there actually a failure of the radiator? Is it actually leaking?

I appreciate the car is not next door, but it may not be totally failed.

If it has been run without water it may have a failed head gasket as these motors don't like to be over heated.

It probably has over-heated. Unless it's very close to you (which it doesn't sound like it is), just walk away.

I would probably had a look is the seller wasn't so incredible. I will follow Chuck's mind and walk away. I will find the right one soon or later, with the rights color and equipments.
