Setup the cams and glued the cam cover down, but the cams locked up

Something nit right, will work on later in week.

Either the cams aren’t totally seated or there’s valve interference... is the crank at the alignment mark?

Finally got back to her after major job/house disruption

cleaned up cam cover and will setup tomorrow

Update after a very frustrating day - mostly self-flagellated..

Im stuck on the cam cover.

I have glued and unglued it four times now, and am finally coalesciing on a diagnosis.

First few times I kept booting my spatial relations and put the cams in every possible combination of wrong ways, but finally go tthem right and marked them with

Symptom was the cams were bound tight on tightening the valve cover.

But....

Finally got it right, and cams still wont move.
I had some flash rust on the cam bearings, so I cleaned them wih Scothbrite, greased up, they spin nicely in cover,
I stopped using sealant until I can get this problem solved.
Cams still lock up.

I then removed all the followers (small cups) so that the cams have no valve pressure, thinking perhaps the valves were stuck

It still binds when the cover is down.

I think my head has been destroyed by either a skimming or distortion in the machine shop.

Either way, head has to come off again.

Ugh. This seems a bitter pill, my condolences. At least you get to take it off yourself.

Did you check one cam at a time, does each bind alone? Not sure what that might reveal but at least you can check it.

Did you send the cam cover to the machine shop with the head? Thinking somebody may of sent it back with a different cam cover.

If you check one cam at a time, be careful to not distort the cam cover.

When you are tightening it, at what point do the cams bind up? Seems strange.

Probably not relevant, but I'll throw it out there. When I was pulling cams from the junk yard car, the cams came right up and out easily. But when I went to pull the cams out of Sveedy, they seemed almost pressed in they were so tight. Made me wonder if the retailing seal rings were just a little bit snugger. If so then maybe your cams are not seating all the way down.

I really think they must have skimmed the cam cover mating surface. That's all I can think... I've never seen this happen before. That really sucks that it has to come back apart, but I don't think there's a way around it.

Just a thought...
I've had some that are a pain to get out, and others that come out easily. Back and forth wiggling eventually gets them out, but they can be a little tight in there sometimes.
