VIDA access again after several years without...

Post by Eddystone »

I do all of my computing and browsing using Linux as my operating system, though I can dual-boot into Windows 10 at startup, if I choose to. I used to have VIDA running under Windows 7 before the dreaded 2017 cut-off date in the license, but after many changes of hardware and software I was never able to get it up and running again, even when I was booting into a Win7 system that had nothing but VIDA on it.

I was finally able to get a whole copy of 2014D by torrent that worked AND that WIndows was happy with. Eventually, I found the 2014A VIDA patch. Using the directions on Swedespeed

https://www.swedespeed.com/threads/volv ... ro.242441/

and following EVERY instruction TO THE LETTER, I was able to get VIDA running on WIndows 10. I will tell you, it really does feel great when you stop banging your head against the wall. All of this mostly on a wing and a prayer even though I am pretty adept at finding things and editing configuration files manually as is necessary to get this done.

I have missed having access to what's contained in VIDA. Maybe I'll get a DICE rig, but only one of my three cars will really work with that.

Out of curiosity did you try and run a VM appliance from Linux? I also am a Linux freak and use Vida from a VmWare appliance that is preloaded with windows 7 and the full Vida software. Forgot where I got it but you just load it into VmWare and start. It also has Hilton tuning software built in. I can send or upload somewhere if you like. i am currently running Linux Mate, but have also used it successfully on the latest versions of Ubuntu. Lemme know if I can help. I must be completely mad, a '99 C70 AND Linux!!!

I've run Windows in VM configurations. Works but always some niggling issues. I am up for trying to set up VIDA in a virtual machine so that I will have access to what's on the Linux side while using VIDA. I've been using Linux since it came on floppy discs and it was a huge victory just to get a graphic display and a working mouse! In recent times I have been running MX-19 and have always preferred XFCE. I will PM you.

I did the same a while ago and got VIDA to run on Windows 10. Was mostly to save space on a laptop without much storage

I have never tried the communication part tho, as all my car are pre-99.
