How do you car gurus know all the exacting information required to do this kind of work and have access to all of these interesting parts (old S60R engine) and tools? I'm fighting to overcome nerves to change my timing belt and you are rebuilding multiple Frankenstein engines. I'm amazed.
There are some cool dudettes and dudes here. I didn’t know Diddley about Volvo service until 2013, when I found MVS , and decided to refurb my T5 instead of dumping it

If you want to bring Green over here for an evening we will rip that timing belt and pump job in two hours, tops…..

New topic,,, Neil , I’m done with this rear caliper, where do I send it ??

I just can't get over that amount of rust. Exactly how many years did that thing spend on the bottom of the ocean ? Eaten clear through the pin retaining hole. Go to the local junkyard here and you'd be hard pressed to find anything at all that looks like that.
Scary how the average relative humidity, coupled with a little salt, can have such an effect.

Yup, same here. I never cease to be amazed by the amount of surface rust on cars in the NE.

Sorry abscate, but that core doesn't work for me other than a paper weight. The 00 R has calipers unique to that model and year which are now NLA!

Which of your crusty cars is that brake on? It is scary to see the brakes that bad. It can't be one of your current regulars as you would be unlikely to allow that to happen! :o

Our calipers can get that crusty up here in Calgary but I normally grind/wire brush and caliper paint them to try to reduce the issue. The other major way to reduce this issue is just not to drive it!

But it doesn't look any better out here than it did under the car.

Oh well, I still have three working burners

However, now I can tell people I once dropped a Volvo crank through a stove.
Ouch. Was Mrs Nevada out of town?

So, just to clarify - you had to bring the engine inside where it’s cooler..?
Yeah, it's 80-90 out in the garage. Eff that noise, man.

I think I might even have one lying around here somewhere, but it's not fun to pull unless you already have the engine stripped down, that's for sure!
Nevada1906 wrote: 19 Aug 2021, 17:40 I know people that'd try to warranty that caliper...
Hey, if it's from FCP, they would happily accept it!

Does anyone know the dimensions of the front/rear hydraulic engine mounts? Trying to determine if mine are collapsing by measuring the distance from the subframe to the mounting plate.

Was on Shagg but it’s all new now. I booted this despite being warned by the PO.

I have never seen structural failure like this in any caliper. I suspect it’s a pot metal problem.
