Did you access this hose the way it was done in Eric's write up (through the trunk)? Or did you do it from underneath the car?
I have a 2000 v70xc and have been told that these parts of the EVAP system are menacing to get to!

Mine is a 1998 V70 FWD base model. When I open the rear access panel that was covered by the wire harness, I see only a metal can that cannot be removed. It just spins. Under the other panel there is a cap of some sort with three hose connectors, one of which has nothing connected to it.
And it smells of gas fumes around there! I have already worked through the engine area valves and lines, all good there. I can go 1000 or more miles with no codes or I can go 80 miles with p0455 showing up.
Do I have to work from underneath the car to get to the lines and rollover valve?

The number of miles between codes doesn’t tell tou much about the failure, that’s dictated by the drive cycle. You won’t get the code to set until the evap system goes into its “ ready to test” state. Driving over 60 mph and using the AC are two things which can inhibit this.
If your smell gas under the metal plates you probably have a holed evap line above the tank.
The toothed large ring is the access port for the fuel pump in the tank and the thick black lines are supply and return fuel lines

Drop the tank. It's easy.
One of the vent hoses had been chewed through on ours.
