I've got a 2003 V40 with the AW55-50 5-speed automatic transmission. In Canada we never had access to the manual so I won't even entertain the idea of a manual swap.
But I was poking around for info on the transmission and I didn't realize that this same automatic was used as a geartronic in some other Volvo models? Eg: the S60/V60 from the same model years, or the 2004+ V50/S40.
The geartronic shifter wasn't available on the first gen S40/V40 as far as I know, but has anyone attempted to swap in a geartronic shifter, and if necessary the TCM?
If the transmission itself is actually identical, then in theory just swapping in the shifter and updating the TCM would work to enable geartronic control. But I don't necessarily want to spend the money on a Shifter & TCM just on a gamble. Has anyone tried this, or have any insight? With success or failure.
Geartronic shifer swap-in, has anyone done this?
