Post by lynetteyross »

Any help you can give me on my daughters volvo 850 ? Her wiper blades when turned on barely move, like frozen in place. What should I check or do for this repair? Thanks Lynette

The nut that holds the wiper arms on might have come loose or are stripped. When you turn them on, see if the stud going through the wiper arms move while the wipers themselves don't. If this isn't it then you might be in for a new wiper motor. Let us know what you find.

Sometimes the pivots rust up. Remove the plastic cover to gain access to the rod system connected to the wiper motor. Stop trying the wipers until the the rods have been freed up. Buff off the rust, oil and then coat it with white grease to keep it lubricated and wet free. It will last for many more years.

You also have splines on both the wiper arm and stud. On my 94 I had trouble with the drivers side wiper and found the splines inside the wiper arm were gone!!

Remove the wiper arm and check to see if it still has the splines/groves/ridges on the stud the arm is attached to. It should also have them inside the hole of the wiper arm. I would say that most likely the inside of the hole in the wiper arm is SMOOTH. If it is you will need a new wiper arm. [/img]
