So,

I wrote this in 2013, when my 1998 S70 was 15 yrs old...

I currently have a 2004 V70 2.5T with 122K, when looking underneath, most turbo coolant hoses look good, no bulging.

Some of you here own P2 cars (S60, V70 etc.), the question is: is this (bulging turbo coolant hoses) a problem unique to P80 cars, why P2 cars not affected?

Inspect, replace if signs if failure or when convenient as preventive measure, leave it alone if it's in good shape. Coolant hoses can last a very long time, even those near the high heat environment of the exhaust manifold.

Knowing what age/mileage to check parts for signs of impending failure is useful. Think if it as "by about xx miles and/or yy years, it's good to take a look at this part." Then act accordingly. On the other hand, thinking in terms of a blanket statement like "this part fails at xx miles and yy years" is (with rare exception) missing the point of basic maintenance practice. The latter statement generally will not apply to most vehicles.

Car repair is not rocket science, but it's also not black and white. Look for the grays!
