What brand head gasket 3531017

Post by Sveedy »

I have the Elwis head gasket that came with the complete kit, but I'm wondering if folks have any preference or experience between the Elwis, Mahle, or Corteco gasket. They all seem to be the same, but who knows anymore.

I have only done it three times but always bought it from Volvo. Blue box on the head gasket, spark plug tube seals and valve stem seals. For everything else crowdsourcing has figured out what to buy to get it done right but for those items I've not seen a consensus.

Thanks Erik ! So I can't find a Volvo brand head gasket at FCP or IPD. Volvocars.com also had nothing listed. Is there another source for blue box parts online ? The only actual brick & mortar dealer is way over 100 miles from where I live.

For your 96 turbo? Should be 3531017 e.g. https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/prod ... 31017.html.

Using that link it looks like IPD will sell it too but I'm not sure if it is actually NLA https://www.ipdusa.com/products/13691/C ... 017-235461.

This place has been a good source recently https://parts.volvocarsmallofgeorgia.co ... 31017.html

Mahle is oe for most of EU cars.
Victor Reinz also.

So...there is a big chance that both of them are used under Volvo oe branded headgasket.

Don't know about Corteco and wouldn't use Elwis for a headgasket.
Goetze is also used as oe for EU cars.

I bought once 50 valve stem seals from Elwis Royal. Only 20 of them were usable, the rest went to trash can... I never use that stuff.
Victor Reinz and Corteco are preferred. My own engine was assembled with Ajusa kit. 30k km with hard loads, no any issues.
For NA engines I use sometimes Glaser, Payen, Goetze.
If my English is bad, please correct me
