Pro parts Sweden Quick strut assembly torn after 4 years

Post by LOB »

This is what the strut mount looks like after 4 years and 20K miles. I've now invested in Sachs XC90 lover strut mounts. I've been doing a lot of those miles on swedish gravel roads and I might have made a mistake lubricating the strut mount from above with transmission oil to get rid of noise. I've heard that transmission oil is compatible with rubber !? Four years ago all of you guys told me this would happen but I didn't listen.... :D

Only 2000 miles? That’s horrible lifetime.

Hundreds of Labour dollars/ euros to replace those parts

My wrong 32 000 km = 20 000 miles... But never the less, a fraction of the longevity of the once from factory.

That’s about 1/5 the life of Volvo parts.

2000 miles would be infant failure

20,000 miles is toddler failure

In case you didn't know. Do not get fooled by the name, Pro Parts Sweden is a Swedish company but they are almost only selling products made in China.

Pretty disappointing to not only spend good money on parts but have to do the work twice, way too soon.
Sadly, I don't know many people who have any good luck with either ProParts or URO.

That's as sneaky as "URO." Sounds so solid - PRO PARTS SWEDEN! Pisses me off. I've replaced all of the struts and tower bearings and control arm stuff that the PO replaced not very many miles ago, at a good mechanic, but it was all off-brand stuff.

Unfortunately this is the curse of the owners of old cars worldwide. There are many companies selling aftermarket parts that are not only of exceedingly poor quality, but even potentially dangerous. It doesn't matter what brand of car you own it will bite us all at some point. Fortunately we have websites and forums worldwide like MVS here that have members that educate and flag on these issues.

Is the strut itself bad or is it just the spring mount that is bad? Hopefully it is just the mount and you can replace and get more like on the rest of the parts.

Good Luck!
