850 Outside Blue - Interior color ?

Post by manovlov »

Hy Buddies,

I think about replacing the interior of my beauty in the year to come.

The car is blue. Which color could be nice to you ?

I do really love this one. Neil or Abscate (i don't remember well) used to tell me that this was a miss to find and fragile in this color.

Over here in Canada a lot of the Blue P80's seem to have the awful beige 'leather' seats that fall apart and crease like crazy. It does go with the blue well, but to be honest I would either look for a black or gray interior but to find all the parts to swap over it would be easiest to find a whole car and swap the 2 cars over. That way you could always sell the other car on afterwards.

Others may disagree, but the cloth type seats seem to wear better, and are better in hot areas as they don't burn your butt.

Main this to watch for is that the seats are the same in terms of operation. Manual/Electric. Some cars were fitted with the wiring to allow an electic seat to be fitted but you would have to check your own car.

Good luck Manovlov!

Neil.

Hy Neil,

You're right on all the line. I will look closer to the European market in the year to come. Especially around Portugal or Spain, the weather is pretty warm most part of the year and no salt on roads during winter. I still continue to think of a beige interior, it gives to this car a crazy "class", the 2 tones black dash and beige part.

Mine has electrical seats. The one i would find should have headlights wipers, sunroof, all "heating" seats ( i don't even know if there were wram back seats), and of course, no so bad (or new, why not) nivomats.

although it is from the beginning of 1995, i could "upgrade" it with all options existing on last models, which means to replace electrical wiring, install SIPS, ABS blabla...

I need to plan my free time when i will be retired... :D

Short answer: yes, heated 2nd row seats were available, but not even standard on the R models.
The third row seats in the trunk were most probably never available withva heater, but the myth continues to live until someone proves us 3rd row heated seat believers wrong.

I like the dark blue with the tan interior. Lighter interiors also make a car feel roomier, not so closed in. Easier to find things on the floor in the dark as well. They do get dirty.

I was once in Seattle on a car parts trip. Picked up an Alfa Romeo rear axle, which filled the back of the 850. Stopped at a Euro salvage yard to pick up an 850 A/C compressor (nobody uses A/C in Seattle...).

Sitting nearby were a pair of perfect 850 tan front seats, just like ours has. Instead of grabbing them instantly, I thought, "Oh, look, they are available if you're looking. I can get some later." It would be hard to fit them inside the back with the greasy axle, etc etc. I skipped it. I called back a few weeks later and they laughed - "Those were gone in days."
"Oh..how often do you get some in?"
"Never."

So, I bought a damn air conditioner instead of two perfect affordable seats I needed. Don't listen to my advice.

I prefer the beige and oak interiors to the charcoal for the openness and light, too.

Elizabeth and Ekaterina are in charcoal

Evita, Catherine, and Shaggkira are all beige with some oak pieces
