1995 855 Steering Column Squeaking

Recently, whenever I turn the steering wheel a little bit (either to left or right), I could hear squeaking noise from the column itself. I sprayed white lithium grease to the U-joint below the knee booster. That did not fix the squeaking. Where could the squeaking come from ?

There are 2 areas I have found in addition to the one you have already lubed.

One is the plastic cover around the steering column at the top can rub on the steering shaft if it is not positioned correctly.

2nd one is the bearing down at the base of the steering column at the floor. You can repack that bearing.

Any instruction in this forum to show the steps to lube/repack the bearings mentioned ?

There is no real instructions for this. There is only one bearing to grease and it is pressed into the floor pan where the steering passes through the floor. I did read something about it years ago. If I recall the person writing about it talked about pulling the carpet back (not a quick job) and then with the front wheels off the ground, pushing grease into the bearing from the top as best he could. The grease dries out over many years and pushing fresh grease in pushed some of the old stuff out.

I will try to see if I can find anything on it. It was possibly for an 850 but they are the same.

This is very useful and interesting jobs to grease the lower steering shaft bearing, thank you. I need to digest it and understand the steps. It looks like that the steering column will be separated in order to take out the lower bearing and lube it.
