Glove test before and after

Post by tommylg »

I had the oil cooler lines replaced and the PTC nipple removed and cleaned.
Prior to this, the glove inflated pretty quickly and there was some smoke from the dipstick and oil filler.
Now, the glove barely inflates, the dipstick smokes less as well as the oil filler.
So, what do these results tell us - a complete PCV job is in order?
Thank you and good day,
Tommy

I would suggest yes, do the full PCV job. Especially if you're planning on keeping the car for any length of time.

My glove test slowly pulled the glove into the oil fill hole. Even so, I took apart the PCV system and cleaned everything, finding a little bit of sludge.

I agree with Chuck that you should check the system, clean the oil trap, snake out the engine bottom/return port, and replace any stiff hoses. While there, you can do other things like replace the oil dip stick o-ring which has probably shrunk and is leaking.

Yes, it takes time to learn the procedure, obtain the correct parts, and do the work. But once complete, you can rest easy for the next five years or 30k miles.
