Hey guys!
It has been a long time since I've been here, but my son and i got a 2004 XC70 as a fixup project. We are taking our time and going through the process of replacing timing belt, VVT hub o-rings, cam seals, water pump, rollers, etc.
Right now, we are putting the timing prockets back on. The exhaust side hub went on easy, and it does the thing were you can move the hub a few teeth in either direction.
The Intake side hub is giving us some trouble. It does NOT have the same rotational play as the intake hub is that a problem? Or is this one supposed to remain stationary in relation to its camshaft? All the videos I've seen have a dummy sprocket on the intake side, but my car has a blue VVT-looking hub on the sprocket. But the shape of the intake hub is a little bigger than the exhaust hub.
Am i doing something wrong here?
Thanks for your help!

Did you not mark the 2 extremes of rotation range when the belt was removed ?
Those points should have been transferred from cam hub to the block for installation reference.
Pull the hub off, see why its binding.

Yes, I made marks before removing.
I took the hub off again and noticed that the inner bearing on the hub has a TON of in/out play. Also, a lot of really sloppy oil came out when I removed it. So that hub is just done. I think it's probably seized up because I jarred some crap loose inside when I started moving that gnarly oil around. It's going in the garbage.

I think I have a spare one of those in my stash if you need one used. Post the part number. Won’t be back at my stash until Tuesday
