Today I did something very rare with my 00 V70R. I actually drove it! I was think ing back over the 9 years I have owned it and I have done very little mileage in it. In fact, today covering 132km round trip (around 80 miles) that is the 2nd longest trip every in this car. Was determined to try to get at least one decent length of drive before winter hits us and it goes into hibernation and yet more maintenance and remediation work. Another thing to add to the work is what smells like anti-freeze in the cabin. Again not impressed as if the heater core is leaking as this and the 'O' rings have only about 8,000 miles maximum on them and I am sure it is a lot less over the last 9 years I have owned the car. The replacement was an OE Volvo item I will monitor and add it to the winter list while the dashboard is out for repair. Should be easy to get to then. Tempted to tackle the evaporator while in there but so far the system is holding up. Also need to get the front wheels checked for straightness as well as the tire and balance. Vibration over 100 kph.
Neil.

Added the coil packs. There aren't any spark plugs yet, but I want to keep junk out of the plug wells. I also added the upper covers in order to align the CVVT gears...and to see how they look.
Interestingly, the way it's leaning on the engine stand is about how it'll sit in the car - look at the oil cap in the front view.

I was feeling industrious today, so I decided to see about the upper engine mount.
Here's another reason this job isn't a direct bolt-in. The B5254T mount will fit the engine, but doesn't place the upper attachment point correctly in space relative to the car's firewall. The B5234T upper mount that came with the car will properly locate the B5254T in the 850's chassis, but it won't fit the engine without a few mods. Notice the stack of washers needed to space the mount away from the head, which will be replaced by a short length of the same tubing I'll use to fab the front side mount from earlier.
One hole in the block will need to be drilled and tapped.
The mount itself will have to be cut up to clear the exhaust cam sensor housing, with a reinforcement built out away from the sensor.
And a brace rod will be needed to stabilize the mount in the Y-axis.
It's Johnny Cash's Volvo.

The father of a friend of mine used to used to set his space heater on top of a five-gallon can of kerosene all winter.

Yay! The B5234T's accessory bracket fits!
It only gave me five out of six bolts, but I'm calling that a win.
