Help choosing rear coil springs

Post by gnalan »

Since I'm unable to work on my car right now I'm trying to find out what the difference is to all of the different coil springs that were installed on the 2001 S60.

My front suspension code is 4E, which uses the 9492227. I went ahead and ordered the Lesjofors brand springs, since they're cheaper than the Volvo springs and listed with the same 9492227 part number.

My rear suspension code is 71, which uses the 9492187 superceded by 30748384. My rear suspension is the standard suspension, not the Nivomat suspension. I tried to order the Genuine Volvo 9492187 from FCPEuro, but they're discontinued. I tried to check on the Genuine Volvo 30748384 from FCPEuro to see if they're still available but haven't heard back yet.

My plan is to install a trailer hitch, still, to carry a motorized wheel chair that weighs quite a bit and I don't want the rear end to sag when I do. I think the maximum tongue weight is 300 pounds?, so assuming I have the extra weight from the hitch, plus, at most, 300 pounds of extra weight hanging from the rear, what would be my best choice for the rear coil spring to handle the weight without any sagging of the rear suspension?

You might want to contact Lesjofors or FCP and get the spring rates if possible, or try to find out what the stock spring rates were. I'm contemplating doing the same after just changing the fronts and wanting to order rear springs. I've always got 2 large dogs in the back but am sceptical about what " Heavy Duty" really means in terms of numbers. My ride height went up in the front 1 3/4 inches with the new standard duty Lesjofors springs in the front. Thats on a '03 XC 70.

If IPD makes the blue HDSpring for the P2 I would go with those for towing

I’m running those on three P80s now and they are great for both ride and stance
