2001 Volvo C-70 approx 90K miles (friend selling)

Post by DaveLieb »

Hi,
Dave here. I am in dire need of a car. Friend's daughter has his old, 2001 Volvo C-70, 90K miles, and was offered $500 for trade-in, so that's my price.
Been told it runs, but something causing the top to not come open. Also, intermittently, the engine light comes on. I will be seeing/trying in 2 days, but wanted to try here for possible opinions on quirks/problems mentioned above, and their asking price for me, a friend in need.

Beyond what I've mentioned, leather interior, roomy (very important for me and my very bad legs) and my friend's taking me there this weekend, to see and try.

I know being there and trying and seeing printed info, would be more helpful to you, whoever may want to comment. Until then though, this is all I have.

I would appreciate any input from this/your community.

Thanks a lot,
Dave

Have the codes read as these cars can get expensive quickly as I well know. Check light could be many things. Roof not working can be as simple as a bad micro-switch to very expensive parts. As long as the roof is closed and you don't mind that, it could be fixed down the line.

May be worth seeing if there is an independent Volvo shop or trusted dealer that can check codes for you before you spend that hard earned money. Even with a $500 car, the ability to grow expensive repairs is huge.

You should have a budget of $2000 to bring a P80 Volvo to daily driver , reliable status.

That’s from skinned knuckle experience

I'm at about $3000 refurbishing my decently maintained $500 2000 V70. But I'm doing a lot of preventative maintenance (ie: changed all coolant hoses) and using Volvo brand parts (including those sweet C70 jeweled headlights).
