240 tail light circuit board issues

Post by msloan »

> I need a new right rear circuit board for my American 1992 240. Should be a no-brainer.
> the part is supposed to be a 1312421, so I ordered one.
> It is not the same as my old one. The bottom right light is supposed to be tail light AND brake light, so it is a 2 filament bulb. (3 electrical connections)
All of the connections on the replacement board have only 2 contacts - ie single purpose bulbs.
> I was wondering if European Volvos have a different light setup? Or maybe Volvo has screwed up?

Some ads on line mention a 1372356 (which is not a valid Volvo part number), but if I look carefully it refers back to
1312421.

Have you run into this problem? Any idea who has what I need, or at least might be able to explain it?

Is the circuit board you bought Volvo OEM or other source? is your 240 perhaps a Canadian model which may be different? Is this the flimsy panel that wears out the contact surfaces so bulbs no longer work?
I will see if my Bentley manual has a schematic or other info.

My Bentley manual has a schematic for 1992 and 1993 240s. It shows the brake light and tail lights as one common bulb. All rear lights use a common ground with wire colored black. The taillight wire is Brown-White. The Brake light wire is Yellow. The common bulb design was used for 240s from mid 1980s to the end of run in 1993.
If your wiring is different, I don't know what to advise.

1372356 is a valid Volvo part number and it is the replacement part number for 1312421.

There are at least two versions of the board. One for cars with rear fog lights and one for cars without rear fog lights.

Did you check the board for a Volvo part number? 1312421, 1307559, 1307557, 1321927, 1321931, 1392204, 1372213, 1372211, 1372448.
