This post right here, looks like they did the head, but not the cover. I wonder how much material came off? It's crazy how precise these tolerances are. I guess they have to be, since the cover holds the cams in place with no separate journal caps.

I just checked one cam journal quickly this morning and found the depth of the head and cover are well within the error of measurement of 20 um, estimated


Ergo, neither the head nor cover were milled TTBOMK

OK, let's go back to the beginning and think this through. This is the same head and cam cover that came off the engine? Not milled down. Same cams? Not swapped parts? Are the cams swapped exhaust to intake somehow? Are the lifters jammed up or stuck in the bores?

same head and cover
Bottom of head milled, not top, nor cover
Same cams, not swapped.
Pretty hard to mix up a VVT and non VVT cam.

Are the lifters loose in the bores? Can they all move?

If there were no valves and lifters, the only restrictions would be the bore circles between the head and the cover. Assuming no interference at the wheel end seal grooves etc. Assuming no corrosion build up on the bores or the cam journals. Assuming the cam wasn't dropped and got a bend somehow.

That leads me to the valvetrain.
