What is the big Air Pipe over the engine called?

Post by lunar90 »

Hey, bit of an embarrassing question here but what is the big air pipe going over the engine called? This is from a 2005 S60 T5.

I need to replace mine and I'm having a hard time finding the exact part.

Found a replacement at the local yard but i think it was from a non-turbo model - the diameter of the endpoints come slightly different.

Looking for "Air Intake" leads is usually leading me to the pipe going from the air filter box, etc...

Thanks

Yep that helped, thank you very much. Cataloged as "Upper Pipe" in volvo parts (8638967) as well.

There are two or three flavours of turbo, each with a different pipe, so you need to match it up carefully by number

Blessed are those who call it the 8638967, which is much easier to search than:

Pipe
Induction pipe
Big fat pipe
Black pipe over top of engine
Empty Nester
A Captain in a Sea of Estrogen

I just call it the thingy you have to take off first before you do anything to the engine.

^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^

And for anyone who happens to look for this same part for a 2002 V70 2.4T, the part number is Pipe - Volvo (1282865)

But what I would REALLY love to know is, what is the part number for the two M5 bolts with the captive washer that is used to hold said pipe into place. No one I've asked so far seems to know....including the dealership! (I lost one down into the recesses of the front of my vehicle a while back....)

Thanks abscate - 11 is an M6, so that's not it. 20 MIGHT be a possible fit, but not sure. I've asked for the thread dimensions and length from the team at FCP Euro.

What came in the car is a machine screw with a T25 pan head and a captive/free spinning washer. Appears to be an M5 x 20. Part 21 is an M5 x 20, but without the captive washer (yes, I'm being picky  )

Pictures below.

Thanks!

I always measure bolt length from the underside of the head to the end.
