Hello,
so, I am hearing about these solenoids, and they are 175$ USD . each.
ouch!
1998 v70 FWD GLT
any way to get a block off plate, and have the OD work automatically, and lose the manual function…like the 7xx and 2xx series?
if not, any other checks? like wiring or switches….low cost items , instead of blasting solenoids at this thing and hopefully it will be fixed.
and, will pulling trans codes point me in the right direction>? can I do that with a pocket scanner, or do I need to pay a. Volvo Stealership a diag fee?
thanks and stay tuned….. I am doing about 2500 rpms at 65 mph.
the W button on near the shifter is defe not working ( but the light goes on and off in the dash) the little arrow light.
oh, my speedo is not working(intermittent) and my track light is always on …do those items have anything to relate to the overdrive?
thank you fellas!

Hey big Al I had this exact problem a it’s not that you think, at least in my case it wasn’t. I took of the multi pin connector on the transmission off and toned out the the whole connector for any continuity (shorts) between pins(holes in this case). Found several! I followed the thick black wire bundle covered with cladding that goes from above the drivers side headlight towards the passenger side of the car. I found several wires melted together and shorted. I separated them (carefully) and applied liquid wire insulation, a test drive showed that was the problem, wrapped it up, never had another problem, shifted fine afterwards!
Looking for a V90 to be my next Volvo, at the very least a T5.

Sent u a pm. Thanks.
Also...here are some pics with my revs rpms and my speed on Waze.
2500 is 68mph
3000 is 83 mph
Does that sound right? Like im in OD....or am I stuck in a lower gear even though I'm in drive, and I do hear 4 shifts ( I think ) when I'm accelerating from zero mph.
Thoughts?
