I might have an answer. The first bearing in e ch cam has two thrust surfaces which control axial play. If those surfaces are gnarly the cam will lock.

I have let some gasket sealer get loose onto the thrust surface. Heavy sticky stuff. It might be that is gluing up the cams rotation.

Can’t get it to it this week but will clean it shiny clean and try that

Cleaned with wood scrapers, acetone

HeAvily greased thrust surface of intake cam , all faces

Installed intake cam and brought cover down with tool and it turns with normal valve resistance.

I think it was just an assembly error.

Tomorrow , it’s both cams plus glue down

She needs more than a part to be replaced : time, sweat, more than tools. Couldn't you keep it aside 'till spring time ? During this time lapse, may be willyou have a britght idea about how to do. Mobdro

She is a great winter car so I want her for winter. She also tows as well as is a better Husky Hauler than my RaceBeetle…..

..and it’s 40F cool and dry outside…perfect wrenching weather

Both cams turning well
