Yup. New garage built behind the original. Original is built under the house and door is not even 6ft 6in. Can't get a SUV in there like my 4Runner. Still a good size at 26' x 14'. This is where the 'R' gets stored over winter under a cover. The 'new' garage is 30' x 30' which translates to 29' x 29' inside with a 12' ceiling. Still hoping to get to paint/seal the floor and install a 2-post hoist. Maybe next year?!

I'm working on a decent 1999 V70 right now. Any last minute ideas of what to pull while I'm here?

Depending on time and money, smaller but expensive electrical stuff like:

1) Cabin temp sensor
2) Heater fan motor
3) servo motor for heater flaps.
4) Door actuators
5) Antenna ring (careful removing it as clip on front gets brittle) - This is the ring around the ignition key.
6) Check what radio they have and see under the passenger seat if there is an amplifier bolted to the floor. If there is, remove that and the wiring harness to the head unit (it is NLA).
7) Small things like door panel clips as they always break.
8) Check the axles if they are Volvo. They often still have the labels on them.
9) Front air tray under radiator if it is good.

That what jumps to mind.

I tend to look for ETMs with the Xemodex sticker on it. Found one so far that I put on my car. I think it was $20 bucks.
Guess I was a bit lucky that the software was correct for my car's current software state.

Are third row seats on the mandatory junkyard hoarding list? This one was missing its bottom seat otherwise I would have taken it. It had the seatbelts as well. This car is probably going to the crusher next week, so last chance to get this gem.

There was also a CD changer in the rear driver's side, kind of acting as an arm rest for the 3rd seat (yet wasting trunk space). It also had heated seats. Pretty high end for a non-turbo 1999.

Is there anything good to take underneath the dashboard besides the heater fan motor and heater flap servo motor? Shortly after you recommended pulling the heater fan motor, mine started groaning so I'll try to pull these two items.

Also, what price should we be paying for each item in this thread? Seems to vary between yards and eBay.

Firefox. Pull the fan motor resistor pack. It is just left of the motor and held in with one or two Torx screws.

For the rear seat. Pulling it is a fair amount of work especially if the seat base is gone. If it is all there then possibly worth pulling.

The one part that is worth cutting out carefully is the lock insert for the 3rd row seat on the backrest of the 2nd row. These are now NLA and most people that pull the seats forget to take this and then find they cannot install them fully.

Theoretically they can be carefully prized out, but the plastic is 20 years old and flimsy. Access to a cordless sawzall is helpful. I had to cold chisel the last one!

With the flap motor, there should be a short plastic rod to connect the cold air flap to the servo motor for it. If it is not broken worth taking.

Prices for a fan motor no more than $20. Resistor pack $10-15 if they know what it is.

Which have short lifespans or common failures so would need replacing? Which must be bought new and which are perfectly fine from a junkyard? Also, which parts are "good to have on hand", easily available from FCP when trying to increase an order to $49 for free shipping?

I'm finding parts for my 2000 V70 are starting to go end of life. Other parts (like A/C components) have increased drastically in price in the past few years. That's why I'm doing a full rehabilitation of my 200k mi 2000 V70 with Volvo parts while they're still available.

Parts to buy new due to common failure:
Power steering reservoir
Heater core
A/C evaporator
Rear bumper brackets
Tailgate wiper arm?

Parts which are "good to have":
Dashboard switch light bulbs
i'd suggest a PNP switch if you can find one for cheap at a junkyard, and those plastic clips that hold in the liftgate trim piece.

This is all great info. I'm realizing it's valuable to pull a spare copy of any part I may need to rehabilitate on my car. Since my car is a daily driver, I can't have it out of service for days while I'm fixing a part. For instance, I plan to pull steering knuckles to spend days sandblasting and painting them for rust protection, then quickly swap them on to my car. I could then sandblast and paint the knuckles which came off my car and sell them to someone else.
