Rear seat compatibiity question

Post by rguzz »

It's been asked before, and they may not be the same...rear seat, 98 V70, and 96 855. If I recall 98 fronts are a switch, not certain about the rear, though. I do know the controls on the passenger side front seat are different (both 855 and V70 are manual). I'll again assume the rails are the same. Thanks.

i have a 97 855, it should work if the attaching system is the same, a little tab that inserts into the back of the second row

Not sure on that one. The 2 areas I would check are:

1) how the seat bases fit onto the floor latching system at the front of the cushion and how it sits when dropped into the down position. If the latch to allow you to remove the seat base is the same, then that part would be ok.
2) The actual seat back latches on the 'C' pillar. I am not sure they are the same. They may be interchangeable if the latch on the 'C' pillar can be swapped.

Check VolvoPartsWebStore part diagrams for both models. They have very detailed breakdowns of the seat components. The two years may use the same part numbers. Compare part numbers of the parts in question between years, or check the "Fitment" section for one year's part to see if it includes the other year.

I'm almost certain that they are the same, but I can't confirm. Assuming you have access to both cars, check the red latches at the front of the seat bottoms (underneath when they are hinged forward), and the latches at the C pillars.
Like I said, I don't know for sure that they are the same, but the 855s and V70s share a lot of parts in the rear seats/cargo area.

It's looking pretty good according to volvopartswebstore. Will dig a little deeper.
