The Schedule Service at a Volvo dealer website provides steps to FACTORY RECALL, which I've. Set up a future date for this service, you can always cancel.

I contacted Volvo Canada on this and got a response saying our vehicle is not included in the recall. I struggle to understand this is a true statement. Is an air bag for a US car going to be different for a Canadian one? The had the same part numbers.

This was their response:

Thank you for contacting Volvo! Recalls are vin specific and we have confirm with your vin YV4SZ592161209814 that there are no open recalls at this time. The air bag recall does not apply to your vehicle.

As is usual with Volvo Canada, they avoid any possible responsibility for anything as they believe us Canadians will just roll over and go away. What they forget is that I am a Scottish/Canadian and not the sort of person that get fobbed off. It just makes me dig my heels in more!!

Different suppliers, different versions, different internals. There is more then one way to skin a cat and still meet OEM specs. Volvo does not specify how to build the parts just the requirements.

Volvo is replacing air bags made by ZF Group with containing FG2 Twin inflators with 5AT 148 N propellant. It is the propellant that is the problem. Not all installed air bags contain the 5AT 148 N propellant. Volvo can tell from their production records which cars have the problem air bags and which ones do not.

I a well aware of production tracking having spent my working life in production manufacturing where all components had to be traceable even down to individual parts.

What I don't appreciate is that Volvo Canada has NO recall plans or proper answers. We have many US supplied vehicles that come over the border and with the same part numbers they could at least say that the production records show that these potentially faulty parts were not used in Canadian supplied vehicles.

What I also don't appreciate is the glib answer which did not answer my original question. Volvo Canada is famous for this and I have had to go over the heads of the front line people in the past to get 'proper' answers.

They are responding to a VIN specific inquiry. It is standard practice to stay on topic and don't go outside of that.

It may be standard practice in North America but in UK or Sweden I got straight answers, not always what I wanted to hear, but at least clear answers.

Today with all the fake news, shills and like. It makes sense not to say anymore then needed. Minimizes material that can be twisted out of context. Still there should be no reason for it.
