New oil cooler o ring leaking

I’ve bypassed the oil cooler with the cap for the NA models and the new sealing ring leaked. It was held tightly in the cap which has retainer nibs and it wasn’t rolled over.
I tried it twice and it leaked bad and the o ring I was sure didn’t move as it was held perfectly in place when I removed it.

The solution was to put some silicone grease on the old o ring and it sealed perfectly. It was still pliable and the diameter looked slightly larger but I didn’t measure it.

Anyone else have this problem. Crazy to think a new part doesn’t fit right, maybe they changed suppliers?

Hopefully not, but I have noticed more parts from China and in the last 2-3 years a few parts that are not the same as previous. Worst one was the pivot bolt for the AWD rear control arm that wasn't even the right diameter. Had to re-use the original which fortunately was not really pitted or rusted.

Glad you found a solution as that would have been a real pain.

I can’t see them making it in China as it’s very low volume but maybe. It was frustrating and I’d prefer to have a new part just like in your case.
Maybe oil causes the o ring to swell and seal??
