I agree and understand that. But all they answered was there were no current recalls on my car which I had already checked.

What I asked was if Canada was affected by the airbag recall. Simple Yes/No answer was all that was required.

Maybe I read too fast and miss something...

The recall only stated 2001-2007 XC70 and V70.
Since the P2 S60 and XC70/V70 are essentially the same cars, does the P2 S60 have recall too?

PS: I enter the VIN of my 2004 USA car V70 in the recall database (link in first page of this thread) and got no recall notice.

I hear you. With the dealers charging $160/hr + Tax CDN and the vehicles now mostly made in China ( yes XC40/XC60 but not sure about XC90) you would think they could employ people who are better qualified. I have to remember that probably for most customers the people the hire if they can read or write from a script they are ok. Anything beyond that they should send to someone who is qualified to answer. I used to deal with the Customer Services manager for Canada but unfortunately she has now retired. She was good, as she knew I would not be fobbed off and the person who worked for her just passed my requests to her!

New person is crap and just does not reply.

The 2001-2003 VOLVO S60 & S80 where recalled in 2020.
I covered that in the What did you do to your P2 Volvo today? thread. .

It is the air bag recall in 2020 that effects the S60 & S80. That one is NHTSA campaign number: 20V681 (PDF) .

The new one is NHTSA campaign number: 21V800 ( PDF ). It is for the 2001 - 2007 V/XC70. The VIN range is not sequential.

In short they degenerate into a more powerful bomb. Same physics as a Grain Silo explosion. Smaller particles burn faster then large particles. That increases the expansion rate. Power = Work / Time.

"Volvo has identified, if the air bag inflator propellant tablets are subjected to elevated
moisture levels and frequent high inflator temperatures, the tablets can start to decay
and form dust particles. This localization of moisture leads to volumetric changes of
the tablets surface creating dust over time. Dust increases burn surface area and
thereby burn rate. Higher burn rate can result in higher combustion chamber
pressure and risk of inflator rupture. This condition could render the driver to be
struck by fragments of metal from the inflator. Total of 194,546 vehicles. "

Might be one of them control freaks that takes a position for less because perceived power is more importation to them then money or getting the job done right. They are all about being Boss not managing ... " I don't answer to you" .

Actually just FYI: almost all years of P2 S60 were already recalled and then some, I also mentioned this back on page one of this thread.

The announcement expanding to 2001-2009 S60s and 2001-2006 S80s, non-sequential, was made just this year, a couple weeks before the V70 one, under campaign number 21V66: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2021/R ... 6-1226.PDF.

So today I got a fuller and complete reply from someone else in Volvo's help team.

The information helps identify 2 Volvo models that are affected and it is in areas of the US and Puerto Rico where there are hot and humid climates.

They also clarified that Canadian supplied vehicles are not affected in this issue.

Below is the information I was given. Please check if you have one of the models and years affected and us the recall web-page on Volvo's web-site to see if your car is included.

This recalls expands cars for 2004-2009 S60 and 2004-2006 S80's This is in all 50 USA States and Puerto Rico. The recall does not apply for vehicles in Canada. Investigations have identified that the cars involved in this recall might be affected by this issue. We are continuing to perform extensive investigations to determine whether other cars might be at risk. The issue only affects cars from a previous product generation. Cars affected are first generation S60 & S80 cars from model years 2001, 2002 & 2003, in hot & humid climate.

Hope this is of help.

Neil.

Betting Canada's giant public refrigerator will delay the decay long enough that the cars will be off the road before it happens.
