Cooling Fan Fuse Variations1998v70

Post by MrAl »

First, thanks for the ideas and suggestions in the past from the members here. Been a great help especially since this is my only car and so it's quite important to have it running. I mainly need it for local trips, but those trips are often very important.

Ok, so my question is:
Is there two different types of fuses or fuse boxes for a 1998 v70 non turbo, or maybe the turbo version has a different fuse box?
I ask because i purchased a 60 amp fuse for the cooling fan (radiator cooling fan) and it verified it was a fit for the 1998 v70 but alas it did not fit. Very disappointing from Amazon although i rarely have a problem with them.

The 'new' fuse is fairly close in shape and size to the original, but it has a flat top while the original has a curved top, and the contacts are more narrow so the prongs in the fuse box dont fit into the fuse body contacts. The length is also longer than the original although maybe not more than 1/8 of an inch (around 3.5mm in the units conversion).

Maybe another question is, is there a generic part number like from Little Fuse or something that matches the original fuse exactly? That would be nice. Otherwise, maybe a recommendation where to buy one of the original part number. A generic part number would be such as the bottom right pic where there is a number like FLF or FLG or some other letters or numbers or whatever followed by a current rating which here would have to be 60 amps, and it would have the brand name of a major fuse manufacturer.

Also interesting would be to find out the actual current the cooling fan draws. Probably a big motor but sometimes the fuse for a motor is oversized because of the large startup current draw which can be 10 times the normal running current for many types of motors.

Take a look at the pics i provided see what you think.
The bottom right pic is a pic of the package the 'new' fuse came in.

I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Do you still need these, Mr Al?

I booted this with all the holiday fun. I have your address, just airing my dirty laundry so everyone will yell at me if I boot it again
