Re: UEM

I installed the brand new mirror that I got from Volvo, it has no software installed. I still get the SRS fault 00E7 and CEM fault 1A5C and the sunroof and lights in the upper console still do not work. The UEM module still says no link. I took it off, put the used one with the same part number as my original, same result. None of these issues were present until I broke my UEM circuit board trying to remove the cracked glass. Will lack of software cause these issues?

Okay. My stupidity. Apparently when I originally attempted to use the original mirror with new glass, not knowing I had damaged the UEM, it blew the fuse. I put the brand new mirror with new UEM back on it, changed the fuse, hooked up the battery cable and indeed everything but the remotes worked, the SRS fault cleared and stayed gone, CEM fault cleared and stayed gone. Upper lights work and the sunroof works. I feel stupid for not checking the fuse, what is and isn’t controlled by the UEM is very confusing, with lots of bad info out there including from the Volvo dealer in Jax who told me if I changed the mirror myself instead of paying them my car would not start until the new UEM is programmed. This is a great forum for getting to the correct info. Thanks much

So is the programming and software of the UEM just for the keyfob? Everything else on the car seems to work fine with a new virgin mirror and UEM. Volvo dealer told me my car would be a driveway ornament without the programming.
Thank you to everyone for such good advice and absolute correct info.

Yes the only thing it missing now is the security data that keep just anybody with a Volvo remote from unlocking the car. You can look at it as pairing the UEM with the remotes.

If your UEM has issue inside like shorted CAN bus, yes, it could affect on start, but I do not think new UEM has some issues. ))
UEM responsible for: remote control option, TPMS, SRS belts lamp, it has blind sensor for adjustable mirror, also it control alarm system and interior lights.

The new virgin board brought all the missing features such as sunroof, overhead lights and so on once I replaced the blown fuse. I am waiting on my ordered Dice unit to program the keyfob along with two new keys (we are down to one key, don’t want a repeat of replacing a key and fob after loosing the only key.
