Finally got around to swapping the rear hatch wiper motor on the '97 850. While I had the hatch taken apart, I took the opportunity to fit felt pads where plastics rub in an attempt to stop some rattles and squeaks. I'm happy to report that rattles have been cut down significantly

Nice! I have ordered a repair kit for my friends 850 wagon so I can repair the tailgate panel. Always nice to be able to hold a conversation in the car!

I just put another one on the other day, the old tabs were a little flared out. The kits are cheap enough, it was easier to just replace them. I reinforced the cracked plastic with some JB Weld plastic bonder and threw it all back together with the new clips. Once I start driving the car again, we'll see how it holds up.
My injectors should be on the way back tomorrow, so I should have it together by the end of the week if USPS is working quickly!

It's true! Now to do the same thing with the dashboard, and fiddle with the five ECC damper motors while I'm in there.. Having heat only out the middle vents is a little troublesome when there's a frosty windshield in the winter..

I would think that in Minnesota in the winter having heat in the car would be helpful! Does your car have ECC or MCC heating controls? On a T-5 I would expect ECC. First thing to check would be the servo motor on the RHS of the center of the under dash. There is a plastic square ended sleeve that cracks so the motor works but the flap doesn't. It can be glued or in the short term try a zip-tie around the plastic shaft as it is often enough to close the plastic up enough to work.

I had an issue with an 850 where that flaps on that shaft actually got sticky so the flap would not move. That ended up with a dash removal and full strip and clean of the heating system which as worthwhile anyway. I believe the part of the flap that breaks is still available and can be replaced without removing the dash. Fiddly but do-able.

While the dash is out you can also look at repairing or reinforcing the dash mounts to stop further degradation of the mounts.

If you figure out how to remove the ECC motors on the passenger's side, please let me know. I tried to get them from a junkyard but each had a bolt or two which was entirely inaccessible, even after removal of the dash, glovebox, knee panel, etc. It was as if I needed to pull the entire giant white duct piece out of the dash to remove those things.

It is much easier if you remove both the upper and lower dash sections (like when you are repairing the dash mounts..!) to give better access. However, I did once (with a lot, and I mean a lot of engineering encouragement words manage to get the rear servo motor swapped without removing the dash, but only the lower dash section on the passenger side. If I recall it included a 1/4" socket extension and a knuckle attachment with a T20? socket on the end. I wrapped the knuckle with electricians tape to stop it flopping around. I was also a lot younger, slimmer and flexible in those days too!
