What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?

This was actually a couple weeks ago but: almost ruined the Haldex casing when trying to get out a badly stuck Haldex oil pump.

Seems OK, it is not leaking after a week, but for example you can see the threads exposed where I chipped the casing. There are a few other gouges but appears ok. Now that I know it's not leaking I applied some silicone to hopefully prevent excessive corrosion of those threads moving forward.

If the silicone does not work try this. Coated the entire outside of the air baffle box which is above the exhaust manifold in the GS300. The box crumbled in half at the seams from the heat and this was also used to seal it back together.

Maybe. Strut mounts can last a very long time. Spring seats no. At least you can check the spring seats definitively without taking anything apart.

The dashboard cup holder is cool, but I'd almost prefer the cubby.

It's a perfect place for a wallet and phone.

Replaced 4 discs, 8 pads, 4 parking shoes and an SL6 fluid flush today.

This was in my garage that is finally dry proof with a finished roof. The siding and garage doors are the only things left to complete it.

I replaced the front brakes on my 2006 XC70 178k. I mention this because of an observation that I made which might be common knowledge to this community. I've done them before, and I didn't want to admit it but was never happy with the braking performance. Never smooth, pulsing, like maybe a warped rotor, but livable.

This time as I was hanging the caliper to the strut springs above to avoid damaging the brake hose, I noticed that my hoses that have always had a bit cracking on the outer rubber jacket near the caliper fitting looked worse. So I decided to replace the hoses. Of course I broke a brake line trying to loosen the hose but that's not why I'm posting.

Once the new hoses were in place, my brakes have never been smoother. So excited whenever I come to a stop. Feels like a new car.

Brake hose can fail on the inside with lining causing partial blocking of brake fluid. That may be what caused the pulsing.

Brake hose failure can happen but it is one of those things that gets posted 1000x more than it occurs. Much more likely it’s frozen pistons in the caliper , crappy fluid, pads hanging up, or rusty slide pins.

I had one fail on me a couple months ago; front right one. I’d just done new rotors, pads, fluid & bleeders on the caR. It already had SS lines that passed visual inspection. The one hose still burst. Boy, is that a freaky feeling. I’d taken a break from work (where we specialize in Oxford comma insertion) to mate the pads to the rotors. On about the 7th hard-center-pedal push it went limp & I went into extreme full-pucker mode! I’d sure hate to feel that again while emergency braking for a moose in the road.
