Volvo 2003 v70 tailgate opening when alarm set.

Hi, have just been accepted on volvo forum. Thanks for accepting me. I would really like some help with the tailgate on my 2003 v70. It opens even with alarm system set. Have checked fuses, there fine, wiring to tailgate system looks good with no short circuiting. It possibly may be the relay. Relay for locking tailgate system appears to be R11. I am not sure where this is situated on fuse/relay system. Can anyone help please, is it this relay,? if so what is part number, where is it situated on relay board and where to get a replacement in the UK. Many thanks if anyone can help.

I have the same problem on my 2005. The relay for the lock cylinder sits on the REM module which sits behind a cover panel on the left hand wing, inside the car. You can have someone toggle your locks while you feel it fir a click to see if the relay is operating with the car locks

I suspect mine has a wiring fault in the loom as I also have a reversing light fault, called a backup light by Volvo

Be aware we have differences between our LHD and RHD markets. Watch out for cats in Cheshire!

The relay is on the outboard side of this module, so you can’t see it after removing the panel but you can feel it

Do you mean you can actually open the tailgate when the doors are locked and alarm is set or are you getting the tailgate open message in the dash when it's closed?

Are you certain the wires in the left hinge area are not broken? The wires can be cracked/broken higher up underneath the harness covering.

The rear lock relay is the 5th relay socket (RMI20) from the bottom on the left side, rear unlock relay is the 6th (RMI19)from the bottom.
